YouTube - Embed in Canvas Page

Overview

Embedding YouTube videos in a Canvas page works well when mixing content such as text, images, links, and videos.

Create a new page in a module

  • Choose Add Page [1]
  • Click the [New Page] button [2]
  • Enter the Page Name [3]
  • Click the Add Item button [4]

Steps to create a new content page in a Canvas module

Add other content to your page

  • Add text, links, and images to your page as shown in this example
  • Insert a blank line for your YouTube video [1]

Search for the video in YouTube

  • Search for your video in YouTube and copy only the watch URL [1]
  • Do not include the & and following characters [2] if they display.

Embed the video

  • Click the YouTube app [1] in the Rich Content Editor menu bar.

  • Type search text or paste the video’s URL and press return/enter [1]
  • If the desired video displays [2] then 
  • Choose Embed Small [3]

Choosing Return link displays an embedded thumbnail of the video, which is especially useful for the syllabus description where top of page space is at a premium. Embed Small works best for most pages.

  • Be sure to click the Save button and Publish your page.
